VJIM Hyderabad launches T10 format Cricket Tournament: 64 teams, 900 students to participate

Clarke explains why Australia isn’t playing a tour in India

Michael Clarke, a former Australia captain, cannot understand why Pat Cummins’ team isn’t playing practice or touring games in advance of the Border-Gavaskar series that begins in India on February 9.

Australia will tour India for the four Test series. The opening game is scheduled at Nagpur. Clarke suggested that the inability to play a tour game could have an “important” effect on the outcome.

Clarke said, “That’s part (not playing tour game)” in Big Sports Breakfast’s Tuesday interview.

“The first Test in India will be the last tour game. Although I’m sure I’m wrong, I believe that it will be important.

Clarke, who played more than 8,600 runs in 115 Tests, said that it was totally different to compete in long format games in India, particularly when you counter spin.

He stated, “You need a completely new plan than what you’ve been playing in Australia. The way you start your innings against spin, the way that you play reverse swing. Through the Australian summer, we didn’t see any reverse-swing, the games were over within two, three days.”

Ian Healy, former Australia wicketkeeper, had also expressed surprise at not being able to play in a tour match and said he was “a little worried”.

Clarke said that India could play at least two spinners in the four-Test series, as the Australians are primarily quick bowlers.

“So, reverse swing is going be a major part (in India), all those batters who walk out and play bowlers bowling 130 – 140ks — there’s every possibility India will play at least two spinners so it’s completely different.”

Australia is expected to arrive in India around the middle of next week. This will give them seven days to prepare for the series. Clarke didn’t feel that was enough.

“You must bat in the best conditions in India because it is extremely difficult to begin your innings if you don’t have that experience.

“And if your get in, you should go on and make big runs because your first 20 runs against India in the second innings, whoa! A ball that you can go forward to and block in Australia effectively against spin, over there can roll down the ground, bounce and take your gloves.

“You can block it outside and it will bowl you over the leg stump. Natural variation is huge.”

Andrew McDonald, Australia’s head coach, said that the team had played quite a few series lately without any tour games being included in their schedule.

McDonald’s was quoted by SMH as saying, “No tour game”: McDonald’s stated that it is not something they have done in the past few series before going on overseas trips.

“We don’t feel the need for match practice. We will be going to India approximately one week before the first match. In terms of preparation, we didn’t want too much more.

We believe seven days is enough time to prepare and to ensure that we are fresh throughout the four Test match series.

The Legacy of Rackonnect: A name synonymous to Indian Racket sports focussed on Badminton

  • Bringing popularity to a fast growing sport globally.
  • Creating the latest state of the art Badminton Arenas in NCR region of Delhi.
  • Specialized coaching, training and competitive opportunities for upcoming players.
  • Providing affordable and advanced equipment for playing badminton.
  • Tech based software to manage tournaments and rank players based on performance.

Racket sports refer to any sport that involves the use of a racket. Some of the sports that come under this category are badminton, tennis, squash, table tennis and pickleball among others. While many Indian sportspersons have achieved great things in this sport category, there was a dearth of a strong system that would help players, who are interested in racket sports, to get the kind of opportunities they deserve.

To bridge this gap, Dhruv M. Bagla founded Rackonnect which has emerged as India’s first one-stop destination for all those who play racket sports. The mission of Rackonnect is to put together an elaborate sports community that would inspire and motivate racket sports fanatics to create a name for themselves in this space, while helping improve mental and physical fitness.

Talking about the vision behind Rackonnect, founder Dhruv M. Bagla says, “As we all know, India is a cricket-crazy nation. That is a great thing as very few countries have the kind of clout India has in this space. However, promoting other sports is equally important. We have designed Rackonnect as a hyperlocal sports-tech platform that aims to create a powerful impact on India’s racket sports community which is quite big. Our goal is to make racket sports accessible to everyone regardless of their age, gender and economic background.”

Rackonnect has been strengthening the racket sports ecosystem through infrastructure development and distribution of equipment. By combining sports and technology, the company is focussing on empowering grassroot-level players and helping them achieve their goals and ambitions. While the vision of the company is to raise awareness of racket sports and make racket sports available to all, its strategy is to provide a competitive platform through tournaments to scout and nurture promising players.

Elaborating on this, Dhruv says, “One of our USPs is the Rackonnect Tournament Solution. The kind of facilities we are providing players, coaches and others is the kind no other company or individual has offered in India till date. We organize tournaments without making the stakeholders go through hectic paperwork. Tech being the backbone of the company, has enabled users to do all their tasks online which they would otherwise do on paper, thereby simplifying the task of managing an event, thereby making events more competitive. We spent hours making algorithms that would automate things such as draw seeding and separation, automated match scheduling, real time updates, and many more. We are implementing methods and proposals that would make everything that happens in the racket sports space more transparent and organized.”

At the moment, Rackonnect has five badminton arenas located in Delhi/NCR. Its badminton arena at Noida Indoor Stadium is a sight to behold. It features 10 BWF-approved wooden cum synthetic courts, a sitting capacity of 5,000 people, free parking, healthy cafe and shower facility. Having ventured into the infrastructure space in June 2021, rackonnect is confident of a fast-paced expansion journey wherein by 2025 they plan to have 50 state of the art facilities in North India. “The vision of making North India the biggest hub for badminton may seem far sighted, but the support and encouragement we have got in a short span will definitely make this vision come true,” adds Dhruv.

Apart from offering event bookings for corporate, institutions and international accredited tournaments, Rackonnect assures you of wider reach, increased efficiency, reduced time and cost and helps players build their tournament portfolio. For offering racket sports coaching, the company has joined hands with Padukone Sports Management which is helmed by badminton legend Prakash Padukone. In the near future, Rackonnect plans to come up with several unique initiatives that would propel the growth of the racket sports community forward.

Apart from focusing on several initiatives for the enhancement of racket sports, Rackonnect has also introduced a social initiative by the name of Racket for All to encourage prospective racket sports enthusiasts who are unable to pursue the sport due to social and economic restrictions. Rackonnect organizes regular workshops, tournaments, equipment donation drives to ensure exposure for these athletes.

Lastly, Dhruv Bagla added, “This year is going to be a big one for the entire Rackonnect team due to several expansion plans and Rackonnect strives to support the growth of professional players and wants to be a part of the journey for glory”.

The Santosh Trophy, also referred to as the Hero Senior Men’s National Football Championship is organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), India’s regulatory body of football. The Santosh Trophy was regarded as the country’s most prestigious national honor prior to the advent of India’s first national club tournament, the National Football League, in the year 1996.

The states of the country, as well as some government organizations, compete in the Santosh Trophy. This is played yearly since 1941. Bengal became the first winner of the tournament, which took place in 1941. The trophy bears the name of the great Maharaja Sir Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhary of Santosh, now situated in Bangladesh.

The tournament’s format has changed over the years. The teams are now grouped into eight groups, each with three or four teams. The eight group winners are then picked, along with four seeded teams who do not have to go through the qualifying round, and these twelve teams are placed into three groups of three. This is the quarter-final round, followed by the semi-final and final.

CEM of Bodoland Territorial Region Shri Pramod Boro initiated the first inter-Sixth Scheduled Councils Premier Football League-2022 (ISPL-2022) on October 9th at various playgrounds in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) districts. The authorities of the Bodoland Territorial Area (BTR) conducted the program to foster better collaboration and mutual trust and provide a forum for young athletes from India’s northeastern area.

The government of the Bodoland Territorial Region formed a football team selection committee to build a strong Bodoand Football Club (FC) for participation in the upcoming first inter-sixth schedule councils premier football league-2022. The selection committee was formed with Hemendraa Nath Brahma, secretary of the Assam Football Association, as chairman, Dr. Sangrang Brahma, OSD to CEM, BTR, as co-chairman, and CHD of Sports & Youth Welfare of BTC as member secretary, as well as six other members.

The Bodoland Territorial Territory (BTR), sometimes known as Bodoland, is an autonomous region in India’s northeast. It consists of five districts located on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River, below the foothills of Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh. It is governed by an elected council known as the Bodoland Territorial Council, which was established under the provisions of a peace treaty agreed upon in February 2003, and its autonomy was extended by an agreement reached in January 2020.

Shri Pramod Boro is an Indian politician who has been the president of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) since February 25, 2020, and after the council election, he took charge as a Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Area, an overseas territory in Assam. On the same day, he declared Kokrajhar the “City of Peace”.

Kokrajhar is one of Assam’s 27 districts on the north side of the Brahmaputra River. It reaches the international border with Bhutan’s Province. The Chakrashila Wildlife Park is situated in Assam’s heritage-rich district of Kokrajhar and is home to the elusive Golden Langurs. The place is scenically beautiful and is located at the foot of the lower Himalayas. The entire area is densely forested with lovely green trees. Kokrajhar also functions as the administrative headquarters of the Bodoland Territorial Council.

BTR Govt, AIFF, and Assam football Association cordially invite people across the country to come and witness the mega football event in Kokrajhar, BTR, Assam.

PlayCKC Launches Live Football Gaming for Indian FIFA Fans

Mumbai: This FIFA World Cup, football fans in India can enjoy a new gaming format while watching a match live. PlayCKC, the live sports gaming platform from India, has now launched its live prediction game, PREDICT, for football. The game is free to play. Cricket fans have been experiencing live gaming on PlayCKC for a couple of years now. Live sports gaming, the startup claims, is unheard of in the gaming landscape. Sports fans have been familiar with fantasy sports. Fantasy, however, caters largely to the lottery enthusiasts who are looking for returns on their investments. PlayCKC offers gaming formats that cater to the fans’ need to engage during live action.

It must be noted that even though the Indian team does not play in the Football World Cup, the fandom for football in India has been noteworthy. Last year, Sony declared that 37 million Indians watched the UEFA EURO 2020 matches.

The PlayCKC founders are confident that the PREDICT format will appeal to the Indian fans following the FIFA World Cup 2022. Swapnil Manish, co-founder and CEO of PlayCKC, shared, “Fantasy sports has been popular in India given the number of gaming platforms that have emerged in recent years. While a huge number of people in India has tasted fantasy, the majority still keeps away. We have studied fan behaviour and recognised that the most basic real-world behaviour of fans is to engage during live action. This is why we started building a live sports gaming platform, unlike fantasy where the fan is expected to behave like a selector or coach and do nothing while the match is live.”

“Your match is live; your game should be too!” is the philosophy at PlayCKC. In PREDICT, its live prediction gaming format, multiple-choice questions are shown to the gamer while a match is live. These questions are not pre-decided but generated on the go, based on live data. This format is backed by PlayCKC’s proprietary question engine that takes in live data, considers the match situation and several parameters, and builds a contextual question. PREDICT is a free-to-play game. However, gamers can use their winnings to redeem various gift cards and vocuhers on the platform. PlayCKC has entered into reward partnerships with Amazon, Swiggy and Xoxoday.

About PlayCKC:

PlayCKC is an Indian startup that began its operations during Covid-19. It offers a live sports gaming platform for cricket and football. The startup was founded by Swapnil Manish, Anuradha Sinha and Sanket Khemuka. It raised its seed fund of $200,000 earlier this year. The round is led by Freeflow Ventures. PlayCKC is delivered as an app to gamers (via Google Play, Apple App Store and via PlayCKC website – Android APK). The app offers two games: PREDICT and SELECT. PREDICT is a simple MCQ format where a fan makes predictions while a match is happening. These questions are not pre-decided but generated on the go, based on what is happening on the ground. This is unheard of in the world of sports gaming. The other game, SELECT, is a simple six-player selection format. PREDICT is free to play while SELECT has both free and real-money gaming versions.

Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo roped in as brand ambassador

Mumbai: After the rip-roaring success of the first three seasons of 10 PL, the World Cup of Tennis ball cricket, Petromann Sports Managament today announced even bigger plans for Season 4. The fourth season will be staged from 18-25 December 2022.

Much like the previous three editions in 2016, 2018 and 2020, this time too, the tournament promises to be bigger, better and bolder. But there is a small change, the tournament will be staged in India for the first time ever. The tournament will be held at the Dadoji Konddev Stadium in Thane near Mumbai city. Skyexch.net has been the title sponsor of the tournament for a period of five years, whereas noted cola giants PepsiCo have come on board as beverage partners and Tripxoxo is the official ticketing partner for the event.

The move to India will ensure greater visibility for the tournament with an expected reach of around three billion plus through various media platforms in comparison to a total reach of 325 million from the earlier editions. The first three editions of 10 PL were staged at the historic Sharjah Cricket Stadium, which finds a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for staging the maximum number of ODIs.

Two-time T20 World Cup Champion, Dwayne Bravo has been roped in as the brand ambassador for the tournament. He will unveil the tournament trophy, jersey and other interesting materials on 7 December 2022 at a gala dinner in Dubai. For the first couple of editions two other World Cup champions former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram and India’s Virender Sehwag were the face of the tournament.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be associated with 10 PL. This is an unique opportunity for the players to showcase their skills and present a different facet of our great sport. I am looking forward to performing my iconic song Champion at the gala dinner in Dubai. I am sure the tournament will be a rip-roaring success,” said Bravo.

For this year’s edition a total of 20 teams from – India, Middle East and Sri Lanka will be in action during the eight-day extravaganza. In all 51 matches will be played during the tournament. On the opening day of the tournament on 18 December, a Rest of India XI, a Maharashtra XI and a Sri Lanka XI will play a four-match series. Each of the three sides will play each other once before the top two teams face off in the final. This opening day will set the tournament alight before the remaining 47 matches will be staged.

The tournament is the largest global platform for tennis ball cricket with the biggest prize money of INR 60,00,000.

“There are some grand plans for the fourth season. We at Petromann Sports Management  are excited about the tournament this year. We are hoping to come back in a bigger way than the previous three editions. Moving the tournament to India is a big step up for us because cricket’s spiritual home is located there. Also, the associations that we have built will continue to aid us in our plans. In particular all the sponsors especially our title sponsor Skyexch.net and partners like PepsiCo that were associated with us will benefit us in a big way,” said Abdul Latif Khan, promoter, Petromann Sports Management .

This year’s tournament will be live on multiple platforms:

  • TV: Atrangi TV
  • OTT: MX Player, Ullu, Atrangi, Ultra, Airtel, Vodafone
  • Youtube: Hungama, Shemaroo, Ullu YouTube, 10PL Cricket

Two separate feeds will be created for Television and OTT, thereby enabling maximum reach of the tournament.

In the first three editions, several players who have played for their country at the Test, ODI and T20I level or even domestic level including the likes of Kamran Khan, Umar Gul, Zahoor Khan and Sheraz Ahmed featured in the tournament. In 2016 former Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider featured in the competition, whereas former Sri Lanka international Thilan Thushara played for Super Fashion, Sri Lanka in 2018.

In the recent years we have seen even in the Indian Premier League (IPL) a number of players like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Basil Thampi, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah amongst a whole host of others who started their careers playing tennis ball cricket.

In coming days more announcements around the tournament will be made.

For further information on the tournament, please visit the official website: www.10pl.ne

About Petromann Sports Management

More than a decade ago a team emerged from nowhere to try their hands in indoor cricket tournaments in Dubai; a team largely made of blue collared workers. A man named Abdul Latif Khan also known as Arif Khan was the man behind this start up. A passionate cricketer having played moderate level of the game back home in India, Arif Khan was desperate to carry on his love when he came to Dubai in search of greener pastures. Despite the initial hardship, in 2004, he decided to form the team named PETROMANN that entered the indoor facility for the first time. Offered an opportunity to prove their mettle in the ‘D’ Division at Insportz, it was not a smooth sailing for Arif Khan and his team.

There were handful of players who were ready to play but could not affaord shoes while many of them were not even aware of the rules of indoor cricket. But with a never-say-die attitude, Arif Khan ensured he kept the spirit of the team high and the results began to show as they emerged champions of that division. Thereafter it was a fairytale ride for the Petromann as the team quickly rose through the success ladder and found themselves playing in the ‘A’ Division against some of the best teams in the country. Their fight to excel continued and there was no looking back as the team made winning tournaments a habit. They achieved success in every possible tournament proving their dominance in indoor cricket and earning a huge reputation in the cricketing fraternity. The team’s face changed rapidly as years went by with several players who represented the UAE National team also being part of the setup. Among those Amjad Javed, Asif Mumtaz, Rohan Mustafa and Qassim were some to name a few. They went a step ahead bringing international players on full time contract from Sri Lanka to play further strengthen the team.

A full-fledged board was formed to further enhance the management of the team that included Tanveer Sadekar, Aslam Shaikh, , Aashiuqe Shaikh, Shaikh Usman  and Sanveer  Sadekar. As they grew in status, for the first time in 2013, Petromann found a sponsor in Pacific Ventures for ICC Summer League. Real Estate developer Parvez Khan showed tremendous interest in the team and soon Pacific Ventures & Petromann Group Cricket Club collaborated as the team began playing under the banner of PVCC. This was the first team to find a full sponsor in the UAE. After having achieved so much, Abdul Latif Khan, who also served as the Manager of Cricket Operations for Capricorn Commanders in the Masters Champions League held in 2016, felt it was time to give back something to the game he loved so much. In addition to the above, Petromann Sports Management also managed Maratha Arabians, during the Abu Dhabi T10 League. Earlier, Petromann Sports management also managed the operations for the launch of MS Dhoni Academy.
