Thunderbolts Cup has earned itself the reputation of being amongst the biggest talent promotion platforms in Volleyball in the country with Kolkata Thunderbolts actively scouting players for its PVL squad through this tournament. Last year, Kushal Munshi from Howrah Annapurna got recruited by the Thunderbolts Committee and went on to play for the Kolkata Thunderbolts in PVL season 2, helping them in their efforts to achieve the league-toppers and semi-finalist position.

The cup would be held from 17th to 23rd September, 2023. It would be played over 6 days in a league+knockout format at Orchid Arena, Calcutta Boating Club. The event would witness a participation of 64 top Durga Puja Committees with

around 640 volleyball players. The 64 teams would be further divided into 16 groups comprising of 4 teams each. Each group’s winner would qualify to play the knockout Round of 16, followed by the Quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. The teams would also get a chance to win prizes worth Rs. 3 Lakhs +. The deserving players might get a chance to play for Kolkata Thunderbolts via player scouting.

The Thunderbolts Cup is the biggest celebration of Volleyball to be organized in Bengal, marking the celebrations of the festive season a couple weeks earlier than scheduled.

Yashpal Singh Kalsi Conducts Black Belt Test at Combat Wing, ITBP ACADEMY, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, May 22-23, 2023

Mussoorie, Uttarakhand – Yashpal Singh Kalsi, renowned Sanshinkan Karate expert and instructor, successfully conducted a black belt test at the Combat Wing of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Academy. The intensive examination took place over two days, from May 22nd to May 23rd, 2023, and witnessed the participation of 29 dedicated individuals who had completed their brown belt syllabus.

These elite soldiers, carefully selected from different units, underwent rigorous training and preparation for the past six months to qualify for the black belt test. The examination assessed their combat skills and overall physical conditioning, serving as a testament to their commitment and discipline.

Under the guidance of Yashpal Singh Kalsi, these soldiers received additional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training seminars to ensure they were well-versed in the latest combat techniques. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was also introduced during their preparation, further enhancing their combat prowess.

Yashpal Singh Kalsi, accompanied by assistant examiners Abhishek Bisht, Apoorv Arora, and Harcharan Singh, led the examination process. The esteemed ITBP coaches Dinesh Sundriyal and Bharma Patil were also present, offering their invaluable expertise. The entire examination was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Susheek Kumar Negi and Mr. Ujjwal Kaushik of ITBP.

At the conclusion of the test, a total of 29 individuals proudly achieved their black belts, symbolizing their remarkable skill, dedication, and perseverance. Yashpal Singh Kalsi expressed his admiration for their outstanding performance and praised their commitment to mastering the art of Karate.

This black belt test at the Combat Wing of the ITBP Academy stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication and discipline exhibited by these soldiers.
